Why does my credit card show charges for more than the final deal closing price?

Some banks have web interfaces that display authorizations as if they were actual charges (PayPal for example). This authorization holds this amount on your account until the deal closes, at which time you will be charged the final, lowest price of the deal. The authorizations will expire and removed from their reports within 72 hours of closing the authorization from our credit card processor.
